Who we are

TXT Tab (“we,” “us”) is a shared expense-tracking service operated from Houston, Texas. You can reach us at support@txttab.com.

Information we collect

• Account information — your name, email address, and login credentials, managed by our authentication provider (Clerk).
• Phone number — the number you register so we can match your incoming text messages to your account.
• Expense data — merchants, amounts, categories, splits, and balances you and your tab partner log by text, email, or in the app.
• Messages and receipts — the content of texts and receipt images/PDFs you send us, which we parse to create expense entries. Receipt files are stored in a private bucket and served only through short-lived signed links.
• Payment handles — Venmo, Cash App, or Zelle usernames you optionally save to make settling up easier. We never hold or move your money.
• Bank data (optional) — if you connect a bank account through Plaid, we receive transaction data you authorize. We do not see your bank credentials.

How we use it

We use your information solely to run TXT Tab: matching your texts to your account, parsing expenses, keeping a running balance between you and your tab partner, sending you service messages about your tab, and processing your subscription. We use AI services (Anthropic) to parse expense texts and receipts; parsed content is used only to create your expense entries.

Text messaging

When you register your phone number and text the TXT Tab number, we send you SMS replies and notifications about your shared tab (expense confirmations, partner activity, and settle-up requests). Message frequency varies with your usage. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages, or HELP for help. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.

Who sees your data

Your tab partner sees the expenses, balances, and display name on your shared tab — that is the product. Beyond that, we share data only with the service providers that run TXT Tab: Clerk (authentication), Supabase (database and storage), Twilio (text messaging), Resend (email), Stripe (billing), Plaid (optional bank connections), Anthropic (expense parsing), and Vercel (hosting). Each receives only what it needs to perform its function. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. Email support@txttab.com to request deletion of your account and associated data; we will complete verified requests within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal or billing reasons.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, stored with access controls, and receipt files live in a private bucket behind expiring links. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will notify you as required by law.

Children

TXT Tab is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be announced by email or text.
